Pelican
Make your own Pelican! This pattern gives detailed instructions to create four species of Pelican: Great White Pelican, Brown Pelican, American Pelican and Australian Pelican. As a bonus, color suggestions and colorwork instructions are provided for a Pink Backed Pelican.
PLEASE NOTE: This pattern requires 9 GAUGE WIRE or thicker. This is used as an armature to allow the Pelican to stand and it is used as a framework for the bill and pouch. The bill and pouch are open/not stuffed, so the wire is necessary for shape. Step by step instructions and photos are provided to aid in wiring the Pelican.
The 120 page pattern includes detailed step-by-step photos and clear written instructions to make an amigurumi-style Pelican. PLUS there is a 45 page PRINTER-FRIENDLY TEXT ONLY VERSION at the end of the pattern. This pattern has been fully tested by multiple testers. Includes yarn amounts and hook sizes to make a wading bird using worsted weight yarn.
Recommended for ADVANCED INTERMEDIATE/ADVANCED SKILL LEVEL. This pattern uses basic crochet stitches and more complex stitches (detailed in the pattern glossary).
A finished Pelican made using Worsted Weight yarn is approximately 20” long from bill to rump, 15” tall from head to toe and 8” wide at the widest point.
To make a Pelican you will need:
Worsted weight yarn in multiple colors, ~750 to 850 yards total
20mm safety eyes
Poly-fil or other stuffing
9-gauge armature wire
Duct tape
Darning needle
Wire brush for brushing out yarn
