Perpetual Calendar
This pattern is for a perpetual calendar with changeable covers to represent each month of the year.
The pattern is written in English using American crochet terms and contains photos to help you every step of the way. All of my patterns have been independently tested prior to publication.
You will need:
Yarn of your choice. Yarn weight doesn’t really matter - the size of your project will simply turn out bigger or smaller! I used King Cole Cherished DK (equivalent to weight 3 / light worsted weight) and my calendar base section measures approximately 7cm tall x 12.5cm wide x 6.25cm deep. The overall height of the project will vary depending on which cover is being used. Please ensure that you use the same weight yarn throughout your project.
For the calendar section (pages 4 - 8), you will need the following colours:
- 2 cubes colour - I used white (approx. 58m).
- Outer box colour - I used light brown (shade ‘pebble’) (approx. 97m).
For the 12 covers & the various decorations (pages 9 - 39), you will need the following colours:
- Light green (shade ‘avocado’) (approx. 36m).
- Medium green (shade ‘parsley’) (approx. 37m).
- Dark green (shade ‘fern’) (approx. 51.5m).
- Red (approx. 23m).
- Black (approx. 18m).
- White (approx. 66.5m).
- Light brown (shade ‘pebble’) (approx. 33m).
- Dark brown (shade ‘fig’) (approx. 11.5m).
- Burnt orange (shade ‘paprika’) (approx. 39m).
- Yellow (shade ‘mustard’) (approx. 54m).
- Light grey (shade ‘nickel’) (approx. 39m).
- Cream (shade ‘stone’) (approx. 40m).
- Light blue (shade ‘sea breeze’) (approx. 34m).
Please note - The amount of yarn used will vary according to yarn weight, hook size and stitch tension so these measurements are only a rough guide. The pattern refers to the colours that I used, however these can be substituted for colours of your choice.
You will also need:
- A suitable size hook for the yarn you have chosen - I used a 4mm hook.
- A small amount of toy stuffing.
- The numbers can be embroidered onto the cubes or you may wish to use some self-adhesive felt numbers - the ones I used were 2.5cm tall (advent numbers sourced from Hobbycraft). You will need the numbers 012345 on the 1st cube & 012678 on the 2nd cube.
- ‘7 count’ plastic canvas. I had a 26cm x 33cm sheet (that’s 10.25 x 13.5 inches) & I used around two thirds of a sheet. A higher count (that’s the number of holes per inch) will mean the plastic is more bendy so stick to 7 count if possible. I source my plastic canvas (sturdy & good quality) from wool warehouse.
- Some 6mm safety eyes for the penguin (Jan) and bird (May).
- Dark grey yarn or thread for adding the names of the months & a small amount of pink yarn or thread for adding the facial details to the sheep (March) & bird (May).
- Other tools you will need are a tapestry needle and some scissors.
You are welcome to sell the items that you make using this pattern, but please do not sell / share the pattern itself. Thank you.
