This jacket has an unusual degree of body due to the unique combination of yarns. The fair-isle design has very short floats. All are 3 stitches long or less. The background yarn is black Tamm Bebe and the contrast yarn is “Walkaway” a stretch fingering weight
sock yarn from Hobby Lobby. The stretch sock yarn pulls the fabric in,making it dense and stretchier than fairisle normally is. The jacket has abit of hip to waist shaping.

Japanese standard gauge machines with patterning ability will get a gauge of 8 stitches/8 rows per inch at stitch size 8 using the 2 yarns named above in fair-isle pattern given. Wash the swatch to be certain of gauge before beginning. Other stretch sock yarns could
be substituted but stretchiness is an important feature of this fabric so don’t use plain fingering weight yarn. No ribber is needed. Before beginning, swatch to make sure Bebe will knit well at stitch size 5. If not, find out what stitch size knits tightly but well. Use this size for the hems. 1 cone of Bebe and 4 skeins of Walkaway yarn are needed.
NOTES: Most machines will need weights to knit nicely at least at the edges. The stretchiness of the sock yarn makes it prone to tangling if it doubles back on itself so treat it with care. Alternate stretch sock yarn may be used. This sweater is technically possible on a Passap with a suitable fairisle design but not with the card given and it has not been tested on a Passap and Passap language is not included so that’s a project for advanced Passap knitters only.
