Peturia Top: A Modern Ruffle Statement Tank

Peturia was born from my love of minimalist silhouettes paired with a single unexpected detail. I wanted to create a summer knit that feels fresh and contemporary but it’s still easy to wear and style even with transitional fashion into autumn.

This top is worked seamlessly in the round from the hem up, featuring a distinctive ruffle that is not the typical gathered frill. Instead, it uses a special construction that builds gentle volume, creating a soft flare that moves beautifully. This shaping means the ruffle retains its clean structure and doesn’t collapse or bunch up, something that was very important to me when designing it.

The body of the top is simple and lightly fitted, with straight stockinette stitch that showcases the yarn’s halo and keeps the focus on the hem. The neckline is inspired by halter tops: broad across the chest, with minimal shaping around the shoulders to create a modern, almost architectural line.

Important Styling Note:
Because the ruffle is the main visual feature, this is not a tuck-in top; wearing it tucked into pants or a skirt will hide the shaping and volume that make it special. I designed Peturia to be worn over your preferred jeans, trousers, culottes, or high-waisted skirts, letting the ruffle sit freely and catch the light as you move.

Fit and Sizing:
The pattern includes sizes from S to 3XL and is intended to be worn with minimal positive ease (about 0-2”/0-5 cm at the bust). The clean lines mean it layers well under light jackets.

Construction Overview:

Worked in the round from the ruffled hem upward

Special decreases for ruffle shaping (fully explained in the pattern)

Simple decreases through the bust

Halter neckline finished with neat edging

Skill Level:
Adventurous Beginner to Intermediate. If you are comfortable knitting in the round and doing increases and decreases, you can make this.

Materials:
The sample shown was knit in a fluffy silk mohair blend for airy texture, but the pattern works well in most sport or DK-weight yarns with good drape.

Why You’ll Love Knitting Peturia:
This is a project that moves quickly once you finish the ruffle-perfect for when you want something relaxing but still visually interesting. The unique hem construction is satisfying and gives you a chance to learn a new shaping technique.
