To me, November and pending Christmas always conjures up game birds: pheasants, grouse and quail - I think it’s their Autumnal colours and whenever I see one live or photographed it’s nearly always amongst dry, crisp, fallen leaves - and that pheasant call echoing over bleak and wintery farmland…

  • however, you get them in the summer too of course…. an all year rounder (I can’t imagine them migrating?!)

I’ve knitted mine using fine Alpaca and Alpaca mix yarns PLUS a touch of kid-silk from my fave yarn co. - Drops yarn - and doubled-up using sometimes three colours at once to create as-close-as-I-can pheasant feather tones - however, some birds are more orangey, some are more ochrey so don’t feel the need to just stick to my colour choice - I’ve indulged a bit colourwise too - I’m sure you could get away with half the amount I’ve used if you wanted!!…

Within the pattern, because it’s a make-up as you go pattern, there are many images illustrating how to make up your bird which you’ll find helpful…

I do hope you enjoy this pleasant pheasant pattern - it is a little challenge maybe(?) for a novice knitter but perfectly do-able!
