Philia
“Philia,” in ancient Greek, meaning “friendship, affection, love”
The word philia makes us think of friendships, relationships, connections. It can mean ‘daughter’ but we like the more general connotations of this ancient word. This word is related to the Latin filium which is the root of filament and related to fiber, so there is a natural affiliation of this word to knitting!
We designed this pattern and kit to be a quick gifting project to demonstrate the bond between friends, family, and partners. The ‘XOX’ cable motif is a nod to the abbreviation for ‘hugs and kisses,’ where the Xs represent kisses and the O hugs.
The kit includes 50g/~85yds of our naturally dyed, regionally sourced and locally spun all-natural superfine merino in your choice of solid and variegated pinks and peach shades. Plus the philia pattern. You will also need a double-pointed needle to use for cabling and during the connection of the ribbing to the cable section.
This local, naturally dyed yarn knits up so squishy and soft, it’s a hug for your cup or your ears! One kit will make a coffee cozy and an earwarmer, or three coffee cozies.
The pattern is also available separate from the kit on our website, using the link above.
