This throw shaped like a leaf was designed as a gift for a friend who loves plants and filling their home with greenery, and to double as a cozy baby blanket, as they just welcomed a new little one. It is inspired by the Philodendron Gloriosum, a plant with large, heart-shaped leaves and bold, pale veins.

The leaf motif is intentionally not perfectly symmetric. Real plant leaves are rarely identical on both sides, and embracing those small variations gives the finished throw a more organic, natural feel and a bit of character.

The entire throw is worked flat using tapestry crochet, with all stitches made in half double crochet. Only two colours are used throughout, keeping the construction simple while allowing the leaf shape and vein details to really stand out.
