Phippsburg is a cute, fashion-forward slightly cropped stranded colorwork vest. Striped ribbing trims the waist, round neckline, and armhole openings.
It is worked in-the-round from the bottom with steeks for neckline and armhole openings. You can make a cowl by using the smallest size, stopping the colorwork before the armhole steeks and finishing as begun, with striped ribbing. To be worn with zero to moderate positive ease.
Designed for the 2021 Affiknitty Retreat held in Phippsburg Maine.

Chest
32.75 (36.25, 40, 43.5, 47.25)(51, 54.5, 58, 61.75) in, 83 (92.5, 101.5, 111, 120)(129, 138.5, 147.5, 157) cm
Body length

Yarn
North Light Fibers, Spring Street (Fingering; 100% Falkland Merino wool; 310yds/283m per 2.5oz/71g skein) A) Striper (grey, background); 1 (1, 1, 1, 1)(1, 1, 2, 2) skeins
B) Pale Maiden (white, background); 1 (1, 1, 1, 1)(1, 1, 1, 2) skeins
C) Krill (pink, background); 1 (1, 1, 1, 1)(1, 1, 1, 1) skeins
D) Sandstone (light rust, pattern); 1 (1, 1, 2, 2)(2, 2, 2, 2) skeins

Needles & notions
16in 40cm circular needles for all sizes, plus 24in 60cm circular needles for vest sizes 1 and 2 or 32in 80cm for vest sizes 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, & 9, in sizes US 3 3.25mm and US 4 3.5mm.
Use the longer length needles for the main body, and the shorter length for when the decreases for the armhole and neckline shaping make the work too small for the longer length.
Always use the correct needles needed to achieve gauge.

4 stitch holders
Stitch markers of different colors
Locking ring markers or safety pins
Tapestry needle
T-pins for blocking
Sharp scissors
For reinforcing steeks:
D (3.25mm) crochet hook for crocheted steeks
Sewing machine for machine-sewn steeks
A hand sewing needle and sturdy sewing thread for hand-stitched steeks
Gauge
26 sts and 30 rounds = 4x4in 10x10cm in Fair Isle pattern on larger needles, after blocking. 26 sts and 37 rounds = 4x4in 10x10cm in rib pattern on smaller needles, after blocking.

Pattern notes
The body is worked entirely in the round to the shoulders, using steeks for the armholes and front neck. The armhole edging and neckband are worked in the round by picking up stitches and working 1x1 rib

Estimated yardage:
Note this is an estimate, different yarns have different weights, and knitters knit differently using more or less yarn making yarn estimates imprecise. But here’s a stab at it. Keep in mind, you may need more yarn than this, or less
