The inspiration for these socks was a stitch in a stitch pattern book. I knit the socks and wrote the pattern back in the Summer of 2012 and had them tested and tech edited in the Fall of 2013.

Once these socks were released, a Raveler pointed out that they looked a lot like Rivercat by Brenda Patipa and I completely agree. I contacted the Ravelry editors here to see if the pattern could come down, but, alas, they cannot.

Brenda’s socks are written in more sizes and the stitch count of the pattern is adjusted to accommodate the larger sizes. Her socks are also free.

Not only is Brenda a wonderful designer, but she has been gracious and civil throughout. I also appreciate the many Ravelers who have been so supportive through this. (I must admit I’m a little shaken!)

However Pickford, M. has taught me a valuable lesson which I’m sure most sock designer learned long ago: never use a pure stitch pattern from a stitch pattern book without combining it with another pattern or altering it in some way. After all, unlike sweaters or hats, there is really only one basic shape for a sock. And since it was a good lesson, I feel as though creating Pickford, M. is one of my most profitable designs ever!

Pickford, M. are lace socks with a subtle, shifting, geometric flair. Just like their iconic namesake, they make a simple statement with allure and interest. The socks are knit from the cuff down and the lace is mirrored with the left and right socks. Pattern instructions are written and charted in two sizes.

Suitable for the knitter with some experience.

This pattern has been professionally edited.

A special thank you to all my test knitters!
