This design has been inspired by a love for cables but also a desire for a simple, yet classic, sweater to add to your wardrobe. The name Pickwick is for a small, quiet village in Minnesota that is best known for its mill. The Pickwick Mill was built from 1856-1858 and stands today in its original form. It still runs, but is not operational for commerce. The churning of the water wheels and the waves produced are reflected in the cable and ribbing detail. The water from the creek is quiet and stable like the stockinette stitch, then as it flows through the mill and water wheels it creates power, resulting in the ripples or cables.

Pickwick is a perfect beginner to advanced beginner sweater project. It is knit from the top down with short rows for shaping at the neckline and a raglan sleeve construction. The body is knit in stockinette stitch to the longer hem where you will work a rib and cable pattern. The sleeves are separated during construction and placed on hold. When you come back to the sleeves, you will work in stockinette stitch and finish with a simple and elegant cable and rib pattern through the cuff. Designed to be worn with 2-8”/5-20 cm of positive ease. The finish is slightly cropped, ending at your waistband.
