Pierre is a cuddly little hippo with a striped jumper. To minimise seaming, the hippo’s head, body and legs are all knitted in one piece, and the pattern incorporates short rows for shaping, and picking up stitches along an edge to make the sweater.

Designed by Amanda Berry @fluffandfuzz, the hippo is knitted in acrylic DK yarns on single pointed needles (not in the round).

NEEDLES
A pair of 3.75mm single pointed knitting needles (US 5).

RECOMMENDED YARN
Sirdar Hayfield Bonus DK; double knitting/light worsted weight; 100% acrylic; one 100g/280m skein in each colour.

NOTIONS
Tapestry needle, toy filling, and small buttons for eyes.

SIZES
One size only - 15cm tall.

TECHNIQUES
For confident beginners and above, other techniques used include casting on and off, knits, purls, increases and decreases, knitting stripes, and seaming to finish.
