Piglet Socks
DESIGN INSPIRATION
My youngest child has the biggest, most beautiful imagination (I am obviously biased). I love observing him play and listening to his ideas and stories. Recently, we’ve been enjoying snuggling and reading A.A. Milne’s Winnie-the-Pooh stories at bedtime. Like my little one, Christopher Robin has a beautiful imagination, spending his days playing with his stuffed animal friends in the Hundred Acre Wood. The Piglet Socks are named for Christopher Robin’s small friend, Piglet, who overcomes his fear and anxiety with bravery and courage to help his friends.
With a cabled lace panel to evoke memories of the Hundred Acre Wood and quick-to-knit stockinette stripes, the Piglet Socks make a great gift for a friend or for yourself. Adult-sized socks use about 50 g of each color, so the pattern is perfect for making a matching pair for your little one or for your best friend.
CONSTRUCTION
The Piglet Socks are knit using two contrasting colors. The socks are cuff-down, beginning with a 2x2 ribbed cuff. The leg of the sock features a no-purl braided cable and lace design that shows up beautifully in your contrast color. A modified Strong Heel allows the thin, jogless stripes to flow seamlessly down the leg, through the gusset, and into the foot of the sock. The Strong Heel fits slightly looser than a traditional heel flap and gusset, making it perfect for people with high insteps and for children with rapidly growing feet. The cuff, heel, and toe are knit using your main color for a polished, coordinated look. Kitchener stitch is used to finish off the sock.
