Pilaster
Pilaster is a simple, boxy summer top worked in the round to the armholes, then to and fro for front and back. Shoulders are shaped a little with short rows and seamed by three needle cast off. The ribbed neck and armhole borders are worked in the round.
Pure cotton yarn gives a nice definition to the symmetrical rib texture on the front, which reflects the fluted columns of an architectural pilaster.
To make the sample size (which measures approx 42” / 105cm around the chest, just under the arms, and approx 15” / 38cm from centre front neckline to lower rib), I used a little under three balls of It’s 100% Pure Cotton (100g / 215m). Adjustments can be made to the width by adding or subtracting 12 stitches to both front and back - six stitches measures approx 1” / 2.5cm. The top should have positive ease, and be wide and boxy. Likewise, the top can be made longer or shorter as desired. Allow extra yarn if increasing the size.
I hope you enjoy making and wearing your Pilaster top!
