This is a quick and easy hat pattern, using aran weight yarn and a size K (6.5mm) hook. I call it pinstripe, because the single crochets line up over each other in a vertical textural stripe pattern. The finished hat is warm, with a unisex appearance that doesn’t overwhelm striping or variegated yarns.

The “wrong side” of the fabric is also attractive, and you can make either the public side of your hat. It has a less distinct visual pattern but the increase lines are more apparent. You can see the “wrong side” facing out on the brims of the gray hats and the body of the pink hat. Striping different color yarns in this pattern creates almost a ric-rac pattern along the edges of the stripes, as you can see in the smallest hat.
