Pioneer 1840 represents the intrepid women of the Westward Movement who struck out from the young United States to seek new lives in the territories. Her plaid dress is high-waisted and flowing to accommodate her vigorous life. Her bonnet shades her face from the weather, while her sturdy boots protect her feet during the long march west. Her ruffled apron stands ready to collect food, or serve as pot holder or towel during her busy day of surviving on the frontier.

Pioneer 1840 is knit on size 6 needles with occasional touches from a size E crochet hook. She uses about a skein each of Wheat and Forest Green Heather Lion Brand Wool-ease, along with about half a skein of Blue Heather, and a small amount of Cocoa. The construction of each piece is largely seamless. The button closure allows your favorite young pioneer to dress and undress the doll.

Pioneer 1840 was designed using an 18 inch Creatology “Modern Girls” doll available at Michael’s Craft Stores, and is displayed here on an 18 inch Springfield doll available at Joann’s and Hobby Lobby.
