Since opening The Chesapeake Needle in September 2016, I have had quite a few different responses to my efforts from friends and family on the sidelines. From “You’re such an inspiration!” to “How do you find time to do everything?” to “You’re crazy… do you really think you can have a career as a knitter?”--I feel like I’ve heard it all. Running this business has definitely been the most difficult thing I’ve ever done, and while the cheerleaders help keep me motivated, it can be hard not to let the naysayers get to me. So this one’s for the pipe dreamers: don’t let anyone tell you that you can’t create the life you want for yourself. If you don’t give it a shot, it’s impossible for you to succeed; so work hard, do your best, and great things will happen!

I love geometric designs, so this cowl is made of a stunning reversible brioche stitch featuring little pipes and bubbles that run up and down the project. This pattern would be great for an intermediate knitter, though if you haven’t tried brioche before, I’d recommend that you get a good grasp of the basics with my beginner brioche knitting pattern, the Better Than Sex Brioche Cowl.

The yarn I chose for this project is Dragonfly Fibers Traveller DK from Fairlight Fibers. When I ordered this yarn, I knew I would love it, but when it finally came in the mail, I couldn’t believe how much more incredible it was in person! The colors blend together so beautifully, and the skeins are made of 100% squishy soft merino. If you give these a try, I know you’ll love them as much as I do! Fairlight Fibers is offering a variety of exclusive Pipe Dreams Cowl kits for a discount on their website. Click here to check them out! If you prefer to choose your own colorways, simply use code “pipedreamscowl” at checkout to receive 15% off!

You will need:

  • Approx 200 yards each of two constrasting colors in DK weight (3) yarn. I used the Mid-Century Magnolia / That Ol’ Chestnut kit from Fairlight Fibers and I loved it!

  • US size 4 (3.5mm) 16” circular needles

  • Basic notions such as stitch markers, yarn needle, and scissors
