Pippin Scarf Set
Note: This pattern was originally published in September 2026 in collaboration with and yarn support from Cardiff Cashmere. I have updated this pattern in February 2026 with different yarn recommendations (although, really, any fluffy yarn with work here) in collaboration with Zakami Yarns for Unravel… a festival of yarn, held in February 2026.
The Pippin Scarf Set consists of a pair of simple triangular scarves which will keep you warm on chilly mornings. The first scarf features a simple mix of Garter stitch, Stockinette stitch, and eyelet lace, whilst the second scarf is worked in Sand stitch. Both scarves are relatively simple to make, and are shaped with leaning increases and decreases. I would recommend beginning with the Lace Scarf, as the pattern for this is more precise. You can then use your remaining yarn to make the Sand Stitch Scarf which is more forgiving in terms of yardage.
Materials and Fit
Notions: 6 mm / US 10 circular needles with an 80-cm / 32-in cord. If you prefer, you could use straight needles for this project. You will also need a 4-6 mm crochet hook, a single 6 mm double-pointed knitting needle, and some scrap yarn to work the garter tab cast-on. Lastly, you will need 4 ring stitch markers and a darning needle to weave in your ends.
Tension: The tension for each is the same, but in different stitches.
For the Lace Scarf, the tension is 11 stitches x 21 rows in pattern = 10 x 10 cm / 4 x 4 in on 6 mm / US 10 needles.
For the Sand Stitch Scarf, the tension is 11 stitches x 21 rows in Sand stitch = 10 x 10 cm / 4 x 4 in on 6 mm / US 10 needles.
However, this is a very easily adaptable pattern and your tension is not overly important here. If you do swatch with your yarn, you may wish to unravel your swatch and reclaim the yarn as I have not budgeted for a swatch in the yarn quantities given below.
Dimensions (after blocking): Both scarves measure approximately 75 cm / 29.5 in across the longest edge and 50 cm / 19.75 in across the 2 shorter edges.
Yarn: To make both scarves, you will need approximately 120 m 132 yds of fluffy lace- weight yarn, such as Zakami Yarns Yak Fluffy Base (42% Baby Alpaca 13% 18.5 Mic Merino 10% Yak 35% Silk; 50 g = 400 m 437.5 yds if scarf working with a single strand of yarn. If you wanted to make your scarf with a denser fabric, you could hold your yarn double.
