Named for a dear friend, Ms. Pitts, this set is the result of an effort to make the perfect mittens… and then a matching hat, of course. The pattern includes instructions for a fitted beanie or slouchy hat and matching mittens that all feature a simple yet lovely fair-isle design. This pattern is great for a first time colorwork project. If you change up your main color and contrasting colors, you will have more than enough yarn for either hat style and a matching pair of mittens materials:
yarn: 4 colors of worsted weight yarn, 1 skein each

samples shown in Malabrigo Merino Worsted (100% merino wool; 210yd/3.53 oz), Water Green, Natural, Cocoa, and Lettuce

needles: US size 5 (3.75mm) and 7 (4.5mm) 16” circular needles, size 6 (4mm) double-pointed needles (dpns) and size 7 dpns

notions: stitch markers (one different), a small stitch holder, and a tapestry needle

gauge: 21 sts and 24 rows = 4” in Stockinette stitch worked in the round on largest needles. Adjust needle size to achieve correct gauge.

sizes: One size fits most adult women.

measurements:
hat: approx. 21” in circumference after blocking
mittens: approx. 9” tall and 7” in circumference around palm after blocking.
