Plaid Romance
Brioche, mosaic, and garter stripes combine to create a classic check
Make your shawl at any gauge and in any size you like. Just keep repeating the plaid pattern until you’re ready to bind off!
CONSTRUCTION
This shawl is worked side-to-side on the bias, beginning at one point and binding off along the opposite edge, with increases along the top edge only. A checkerboard of brioche, mosaic, and garter striped blocks create the illusion of a houndstooth check fabric.
Some sections of this shawl are worked back and forth in the “normal” way, changing colors every two rows. These sections will alternate with sections of one-row stripes, where you will work across a row using one color, slide your stitches to the other end of the needle, work a second pass in the same direction using the second color, and only then will you turn your work to go back the other way. Every two passes (one with each color) counts as a single row, so you will see row numbers repeated in these sections of the pattern. (If you’ve worked two-color brioche before, this should sound familiar.)
