DESCRIPTION:

Sometimes, you feel a little spooky. (Or sometimes, a lot spooky, depending on if you’ve been hitting the horror movies a little too hard.) Whether you’re a believer in the supernatural, or a skeptic who just digs the aesthetic, have I got a pattern for you.

The Planchette mitts feature an off-brand, totally not trademarked, spirit board planchette on the back of each hand; text reading “GOODBYE” and “Y/N” on the left and right hands, respectively; and a field of stars scattered across the palms of both hands. The mitts are knit with fingering weight yarn in two contrasting colors. Instructions for two different sizes are included, with size-specific charts for each hand.

Included in this pattern are two PDFs-- one for the pattern, and one for my colorwork phototutorial.

SIZING:

8”/8.5” (20/21.5 cm) hand circumference, as measured around the widest part of the palm.

GAUGE:

36 sts x 40 rounds over 4” (10 cm) in colorwork knitting after blocking. Depending on your style of knitting, you may need to go up or down a needle size in order to obtain gauge on stranded colorwork.

RECOMMENDED NEEDLES:

For ribbing: US 1 (2.25 mm) circulars
40” (100 cm) cable length recommended

For main mitt: US 2 (2.75 mm) circulars
40” (80-100 cm) cable length recommended

NOTIONS:

  • stitch markers to mark intervals within colorwork
  • stitch holders or scrap yarn
  • tapestry needle for weaving in ends.

YARN:

Two different colors of fingering weight wool or wool-nylon blend yarn.

It is recommended that you choose colors with strong contrast. Using a solid color for at least one of your yarns is strongly advised.
