We all know that turtles are dying from eating our plastic waste, so in a meta turn of crafting events, you can make your very own amazing crochet turtle made entirely out of plastic bags! I made this for a Conservation Week craft workshop at the local aquarium.

Supermarket bags are hard to come by now, but look around and you’ll find plastic bags from food items or postage packaging that you can use.

The pattern also includes instructions to make plarn (PLastic yARN) from your plastic bags.

I used a 7mm crochet hook (although gauge is not critical and you could use 6mm-8mm)

Of course, you could also make these from yarn: double knit and 4mm hook - you’d make baby turtles.
