Do you have too many plastic grocery bags stashed in your pantry? Don’t throw them out! Many end up in the ocean, killing the turtles and other sea life that accidentally eat them. Instead, you can combine the plastic bags with yarn to make this fun, practical, and sturdy tote bag.

I didn’t have enough yarn of any one color, so I made this one rainbow. You can use any color combination or a solid color.

The finished tote measures 14” x 13.5” x 4”, not including the handles.

You will need:

475 yards of worsted weight yarn
90-100 clean, dry, plastic grocery bags
Size K plastic crochet hook
Rotary cutter and mat (or you could use scissors)
Ruler

This item includes two digital files: The instructions for making plastic bag yarn (plarn), and the pattern for the tote bag.
