Since I have a real liking for nature’s most peculiar, weird, mysterious or misunderstood underdogs I decided to design some of them for anyone who wants to get to know these natural weirdo’s a little better!
The (duck-billed) platypus is one of Australia’s most peculiar residents. If you were to put a duck, a beaver and an otter in a blender, this is what might come out!

The platypus is fairly easy to knit, with one sequence of short rows.

For the platypus in the photos 2.5 mm double pointed needles (UK 12) were used.

It measures 23 cm from bill to tail.

This example was made with 2.5 mm double pointed needles (UK 12) and about 90 m of Rowan Felted Tweed yarns - treacle (145) for the body, carbon (159) for the bill - which give the body a textured appearance.
The body is knit in one circular piece, starting at the bottom of the tail, and folded afterwards.
