Amanda of Lorna’s Lace declared 2016 to be the Summer of the Dress. But, she lives in Chicago, which means that mid-summer often needs a light cardigan over that dress. Pleno Verano, which is Spanish for mid-summer, is a top-down, raglan sleeve cardigan with a seed stitch border at the neck, cuffs, and edges; you can add as many or as few buttons as you like. It’s meant to be short but you can easily customize the length, too! It’s easily customized to exactly your size – just try it on as you go, and stop increasing when it fits!

Finished Size:
Chest 32(36, 40, 44, 48, 52) inches, sleeve circumference 12.75(13.75, 14.5, 16.25, 17, 17.75) inches, length dependent upon your whim! Sample is 17” from cast-on to bind-off.

Yarn: Lorna’s Laces Solemate (55% Superwash Merino wool, 15% nylon, 30% Outlast viscose, 425 yards/100g), 2(2, 2, 3, 3, 4) skeins. Sample worked in Sheridan. Or, you may use any comparable fingering weight yarn.

Needles:
US #4/3.25mm circular needle, 32 inches or longer (larger sizes may prefer a longer needle).
Set of US #4/3.25mm double pointed needles or preferred method for small circumference knitting in the round.
Set of US #3/3.25mm double pointed needles or preferred method for small circumference knitting in the round. These are used on the sleeve cuffs only.
Or, size to make gauge

Notions
Stitch markers
Waste yarn or stitch holders
Darning needle
Five 5/8” or 3/4” buttons – wait until garment is complete to ensure proper size.

Gauge: 20 stitches/28 rows per 4” in stockinette stitch, worked flat, on larger needles. Ensure you use a correct needle size to make gauge in the round as well. Knitting in the round sometimes means you’re knitting more tightly; you may need to go up a needle size to make sure you stay at the correct gauge.
