The Ploughman’s cowl uses two weights of yarn to create textured stripes of color. It’s name reflects the ‘furrows’ created by the fingering weight, as they cut through the textured rib of the worsted yarn. The different weights of yarn give the cowl an interesting drape and movement. This project looks complicated, but is very easy and quick to knit in the round on circular needles.

To make a smaller or larger circumference, increase or decrease the stitch count by increments of six stitches. Gauge is not critical for this project, but will affect the size of the finished product and the amount of yarn needed.

Materials needed:
-175 (220, 285) yds / 160 (201, 260) m of worsted weight yarn (MC) and 80 (100, 130) yds / 73 (91, 119) m of fingering weight yarn (CC)
-US size 7 / 4.5 mm 16” (24”, 32”) / 40 (60, 80) cm circular needles
