This unique shawl with an I-cord edging begins with a single brioche section. It forms its half-ellipse shape by first utilizing increases on both edges and in a center spine before removing the center increases to round it out. A seed stitch band gives the shawl a pop of color, before moving on to a two-by-one brioche section with single brioche increases along the edges. Another pop of color is achieved with the chevron border, and an I-cord bind off finishes it off. Lower contrast colors used in the brioche sections will achieve a more subtle look, while higher contrast colors create more definition.

Skill level Intermediate. Basic brioche skills are helpful, but tutorials can also be found to help beginners. Techniques used: knit, purl, brioche, two-by-one brioche, brioche increases, I-cord bind off.

Needles 40” US size 6 (4.0 mm) circular needle or size needed to obtain gauge. You may want to start with a shorter length cord and switch to the longer cord as the shawl grows.

Gauge Gauge is not incredibly important for this shawl. Just be sure that you like the knitted fabric your gauge creates. A looser gauge will require more yarn.
