A skein of wonderfully soft handspun merino is perfect for a little vest. The yarn I used was subtly striped, and I decided to knit the vest sideways for vertical striping. The purled, asymmetrical stripes accentuate the striping of the yarn and are designed so that the knitter doesn’t need to spend time trying to match the striping to the vest even if the gauge differs from my original.

The vest is knit flat, and the side seam is grafted together. Seaming is only needed for the shoulders.
