Pocket Edition (Hat).
Knit the Pocket Edition Hat in any yarn, at any gauge, to any size!
This simple design knits up fast in worsted weight to aran yarn, or more slowly in finer things. You’ll want to work at a pretty close gauge and knit your hat so that once finished, it fits the intended wearer with a little bit of negative ease—but you can knit it a little larger for a fit that exaggerates the faux horns/ears, or a little smaller so that these are diminished when the hat’s pulled down tight.
I’ve included a quick overview for a patch pocket, but you don’t have to add one.
Finishing is technically seamless—you’re done after binding off!
Materials:
- 170-200 yards of soft worsted-weight wool. Sample is shown in Woolstok Worsted; yardage will vary with different yarn weights.
- 1 24”+ circular needle in US7/4.5mm, or size needed for gauge
- Tapestry needle for weaving in ends
- crochet hook for cast-on, size suited to yarn
- two or more removable stitch markers
Gauge:
Gauge for the sample is 18 sts and 36 rows over 4”/10cm, in unblocked garter stitch, worked flat. Gauge will vary with your yarn choices, but should be moderately dense.
Notes:
The pattern includes a quick chart with basic sizes, but in general, you’re knitting up to the size you need and should be able to check, at least in the sense of eyeballing or measuring your work, as you go. Choose the needle you need for the yarn you’re using, and adjust your gauge accordingly. And have fun, because this is a pretty satisfying knit—the increases are interesting but not difficult, and it’s kind of a nice canvas for a cool yarn or good scraps.
