In thinking of fashions from the 1990s recently, I was reminded of the “poet blouses” that were in style during my early high school years. They were typically made in white or off-white satin fabric and featured a deep V-neck with ruffle collar and ruffles at the sleeve hems. I desperately wanted one at the time, but the V-necks were far too low for me at that age. With this design, I decided to fulfill my dream of age 14 and create a poet blouse in yarn. Some poet blouses had a ruffle down the center front, and I chose to mimic that with a lace panel. The lace pattern appears again in the sleeve and collar, an effect that can’t be achieved in satin fabric. This is my tribute to the 1990s, updated for modern times.
