This is knit from the top down (i.e. you’re starting at the ribbed area above the eyes, then making the pointy cap, then ending at the turtleneck). Pattern is 4 pages long and I forgot to say Cast off as the last sentence! (Not sure how to edit it at this point. :)

Needles: Double pointed needles size 5, 7, and 8

Yarn: Red Heart Soft Yarn (Medium 4, worsted acrylic gives you 17 st per 4 inch). I use this because it’s really soft and not itchy and it’s easy care, wash and dry.

Additional Materials: Tapestry needle for weaving ends

Gauge: 4.25 stitches per inch in stockinette in the round

Measurements: My dog is a 16 lb Rat Terrier. The circumference his face between the eyes and ears measures 10 inches around. The circumference of his neck measures 11 inches around.

Level: Intermediate. It would be great if you have some experience with double pointed needles and even better if you’ve done some short rows for socks.

German Short Row (GSR): this technique is very easy after you’ve seen it. You can either go to this great video by Mimi Kezer or read the following description: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i_6Pjl20zKA

On a RS row: Knit the number of stitches as stated in the pattern, turn work, bring yarn to front, slip the first st as if to purl, bring yarn over the needle to the back of your work and pull tight (this creates the double stitch = DS), bring yarn to front and purl the WS row.

On a WS row: Purl the number of stitches as stated in the pattern, turn work, bring yarn to front, slip the first stitch as if to purl, bring yarn over the needle to the back of your work and pull tight (this creates the double stitch = DS). Then just knit normally.

On the 2nd part of the pattern you will be working the double stitches and at that point you’ll treat them as a single stitch, means: knit through both legs of the DS on a RS row, purl through both legs of the DS on a WS row.
