Polka Dot Triangle Scarf
A delicate triangular scarf dotted with eyelets, worked in one piece from tie to tie, no yarn cuts, no seaming. Garter-stitch ties and borders keep the edges flat, while eyelets scatter across stockinette in a staggered checkerboard pattern. An optional flouncy ruffle edges the bottom for a more romantic look.
Wear it three ways: over the shoulders as a scarf, tied as a bandana, or around the neck as a collar. A lightweight fall layer that’s quick to knit and friendly to beginners, every step is shown in text, photos and video lessons.
Difficulty: easy / beginner-friendly
Recomended yarn: light, drapey, non-curling: Chinese mink, lightweight merino, alpaca, kid mohair, etc. (175–400 m per 100 g).
Materials
1. For the orange scarf, I used Chinese Mink yarn (350 m/383 yds per 50 g/1.8 oz), held in 2 strands, in orange, color 879.
For the pink scarf, I used cone yarn Zegna Baruffa Lane Borgosesia Cashwool 100% WV 2/48 (2,400 m ≈ 2,625 yds per 100 g / 3.5 oz), held with 6 strands together, color light pink.
As an alternative you can use any suitable yarn with similar footage and properties for the specified size. Go for yarn with a yardage of 175 m (≈191 yds) to 400 m (≈437 yds) per unit of
weight.
One scarf without ruffle requires about 100 g (3.5 oz) of yarn.
One scarf with the ruffle requires approximately 150 g (5.3 oz) of yarn.
2. Circular knitting needles with a long cable (at least 60-80 cm). I used ChiaoGoo Red Lace Premium Stainless Steel circular needles, 24” (60 cm), US 6 (4 mm). Choose knitting needles
from 3.5 mm to 4 mm (US sizes 4-6) based on the specified knitting gauge and your yarn.
3. Scissors, 2 knitting markers, thin needle for sewing, crochet hook (optional).
Gauge (orange scarf): 12 sts and 20 rows = 2 x 2’’ (5 x 5 cm) worked in Stockinette with eyelet pattern on US 6 (4 mm) needles with the specified yarn (orange Chinese Mink) held in two strands. The finished size of the orange Lace Polka Dot Triangle Scarf is 115 × 37 cm (approximately 45 × 14.5 inches) without ties. Each tie is 42 cm (approx. 16.5 in) long; you can
adjust the tie length to your liking.
Gauge (light pink scarf with ruffle): 11 sts and 13 rows = 2 x 2’’ (5 x 5 cm) worked in Stockinette with eyelet pattern on US 6 (4 mm) needles with the specified yarn (light pink merino wool)
held with 6 strands together. The finished size of the light pink Lace Polka Dot Triangle Scarf with ruffle is 120 × 40 cm (approximately 47 × 16 inches) without ties. Each tie is 42 cm (approx. 16.5 in) long; you can adjust the tie length to your liking.
Always knit a gauge swatch before you start and adjust needle size to match the given gauge — the finished size depends on it.
Pattern features: row-by-round tracker table, video tutorials for every technique, optional ruffle supplement, care notes. Pattern written in English, in US terms.
