Simple texture panels flank a chain of colourful chevron blocks for a striking geometric wrap. Polychrome Heart is worked in three parts, each building on the last, for a relaxing knit with enough going on to keep your interest. To make this shawl, you’ll need to know how to knit, purl, increase, decrease, and pick up stitches. Pattern includes an illustrated tutorial for working German Short Rows.

Yarn

Sunday Knits 3-ply yarns are designed to be interchangeable; the grist and gauge are the same across the range. The different fibres used create slight differences in texture: Angelic’s angora gives it a lovely halo; Nirvana’s cashmere gives it a bit more halo than Eden; Brigadoon is subtly tweedy. See Pattern Notes for more information about these yarns.

Sunday Knits 3-ply (your choice of Angelic: 75% extra-fine merino, 25% French angora; Brigadoon: 100% extra-fine merino tweed; Eden: 100% extra-fine merino; or Nirvana: 90% select fine merino, 10% premium Mongolian cashmere.

  • MC: full-size skeins (246 yds/225m per 1.76 oz/50g): 6 skeins (Sample MC is Angelic: Moth)
  • CC1-6: mini-skeins (99 yds/90m per 20g) 1 skein each of 6 colours (Sample CC1 is Angelic: Bone; CC2-6 are the Delphinium 5 colour gradient set )

About the yarns

About the yarns: Sunday Knits 3-ply is a quartet of heavy fingering/light sport weight yarns in a variety of fine fibres and a gorgeous range of colours. Sustainably spun in Italy from ethically sourced fibres, the four blends are designed to work interchangeably, so you can use whichever colour and/or fibre blend you prefer. Sunday Knits 3-ply is a very high quality yarn with a woolen-spun structure: exquisitely soft yet durable and resistant to pilling, considering the fineness of the fibres. The yarns in this collection bloom with washing, which fills in the stitches to create a soft, cohesive fabric. It is available online from Carol Sunday at sundayknits.com or at a few select local yarn shops (you can find the list of stockists at sundayknits.com/links.) If substituting yarn for this project, look for a fingering weight yarn that gives you a light, drapey (but not saggy) fabric at the pattern’s gauge. You will need approximately 1548 yds/1415m of MC; 76 yds/69m each of CC 2, 3, 4, & 5; and 48 yds/44m each of CC 1 & 6.
