I think we all have heard about Pompeii, the ancient Roman town that was buried by the violent eruption of Vesuvius in 79 AD.

Arriving from Naples there’s a train that mostly passes along the coastal area of the Sorrento peninsula. There’s a tiny station right in front of the entrance of the archeological park. It’s a weird feeling to enter the park; while the houses are mostly ruined, the streets seem to be like in ancient times. Columns standing proud, reaching the burning mediterranean sun, without anything to hold. One can still see the frescoes on the walls, and some of the floor mosaics are really well preserved.

These fingering weight socks are knit cuff down with a heel flap. Cuff, heel and toes are worked with the main color only, while the leg and foot are worked in stranded colorwork which takes its shape from an old Roman mosaic. Under the heel the decreases are integrated to a different motif, as surprising as stepping
into the old buildings of Pompeii.
