I designed this poncho as an easy adaptable knit for multiple body sizes and shapes. The piece is worked from the top down and uses simple increases with a centered cable on both the front and back. The chunky weight yarn makes it very warm, so it can be used as outerwear on a cool day or a cozy garment to throw on during a winter day inside.
I recommend using several different lengths of circular needles to change as the poncho expands. An interchangeable needle set works great for this. If you are comfortable working with the magic loop method, one set of 36” length needles would work as well.
This pattern includes both adult and child size versions. This accommodates the difference in head and neck circumferences. The length and ending body circumference given for each size is a guideline, however, the pattern is easily adaptable for as long or wide as you wish.
