Pop Goes the World
One day, I was visiting my local yarn store (Stitch Yarn Co. in Medicine Hat, AB) and in the corner of my eye I spotted a table saturated with bright colours and speckles. I had just come across Mary Margaret Fibers Sock Yarn and was instantly inspired. the colour palette reminded me of the 80’s and the song, ‘Pop Goes the World’ by Men Without Hats popped into my head.
I knew I had to design a pair of socks with that yarn and I knew they would be called, ‘Pop Goes the World’.
The ‘Pop Goes the World’ socks knit using a simple 4 round repeat that gives a really fun texture. Pair that texture with a bright, fun yarn and you’ve got a recipe for something awesome.
I hope you like the pattern.
Yarn Requirements:
- These socks are knit using a fingering weight yarn. The yardage needed depends on the size you are knitting, but in most cases 100g/400m should be plenty. You can decide to knit with a single colour, or add a contrast colour for you top, heels and toes.
- For my socks, I knit using Mary Margaret Fibers Sock Yarn in the colour ‘Bite Me’ for the body of the sock and ‘Purple Pop’ for the top, heels and toes.
Needles:
- 2.25mm and 2.75mm DPN’s, 9” circulars, or 40” circulars for Magic Loop. Use your preferred method for knitting in small circumferences.
Gauge:
- 32 sts / 4” using the 2.25mm needles
Size:
- These socks will fit a foot circumference up to 8.5”
Additional Materials Needed:
-
1-3 Stitch Markers, one being unique for the BOR
-
Scissors
-
Darning Needle
