Poppies started out as a simple fitted cardigan with a springtime floral colorwork border as an illustration of waist shaping. But as it turns out, the pattern provides an easy way for knitters, without making a major commitment, to give steeking and mitered corners a try. The colorwork border is worked in the round with a 7-stitch steek that is tucked into the border facing so that there are no extra ends to weave. The bottom front is worked into a clean 90-degree edge, and the entire border gets folded over and sewn for a beautiful finish.
