Port Day started out as any other collaboration has for me. I had an idea in my head, grabbed my needles and the fantastic yarn from Dream In Color (Jilly With Cashmere) and started knitting. I knew what I wanted for this shawl. Something simple but with a wide elaborate and fantastic border! It’s the timing that makes this shawl special to me. I started this shawl the day I started chemo treatments at the New Mexico Cancer Center. A few weeks earlier I’d had surgery to implant a purple port-a-cath to receive my treatment. The day I started this shawl was the first day the port had been accessed. Thus, Port Day! This year, and particularly the month of May 2018, has been a rough one for me but knitting has saved me. As I suspect knitting has saved many of you too. May you feel the comfort that Port Day brought me as you knit it. Never forget that through it all, we have knitting. And knitting is what binds us all together!

Port Day is a wonderful collaboration with Dream In Color Yarns! I am grateful to have had the opportunity to work with Veronica and her lovely yarn!!

Adventurous Beginner - the main body of Port Day is all knit in garter stitch. It is finished with a knitted-on lace edging that is wide, elaborate and contains two mock cables within. Port Day is a great knit for both experienced lace knitters and adventurous beginners.

Port Day is knit top down with increases on both sides to create its crescent shape. When the body is finished, the stitches for the knitted-on lace edging are cast on using a knitted CO. Then the border is knit back and forth joining the last stitch of every RS row together with a stitch from the main body.

Port Day was a collaboration with Dream In Color Yarns and was knit with Jilly With Cashmere, in the colorway Velvet Port.

Port Day measures 17 inches down the center back and 55 inches across the top.
