A simple modern blanket pattern knit entirely in garter stitch.

It is very suitable as a portable project that you can pick up and work on for short periods of time without needing too much concentration.

There are plenty of stage by stage photos to explain the construction.

The pattern gives layout diagrams for 3 sizes of blanket, and can very easily be adapted to any size.
I chose 13 colours of Stylecraft Special DK yarn (which are listed in the pattern), but you could just as easily make it entirely scrappy and use up yarn oddments.
You could also use worsted/aran yarn instead of double knit if you prefer. Just be aware that the finished squares will be bigger.
