The socks, with their curved short-row heels creating form and geometric designs starting at the toe and working their way up the foot, are influenced by Romanesque architecture.

The toe, instep, heel flap, and leg are patterned; the foot sole and heel turn are worked in stockinette stitch. The socks feature “gusset and flap” heels: work the gusset increases on the foot sole, turn the heel with short rows, and decrease the gusset stitches away as the heel flap is worked.
