Working with plant-dyed yarns reminds me how lucky we are to have great, thoughtful yarnies: people passionate about the animals, people making something true to the landscape in which the wool is grown, people with an eye for subtle colours.

I wanted to design something that reflected the ethos of thoughtful yarns, and so I turned to traditional Fair Isle patterns. These fingerless mitts updates tradition with gentle hues and colour transitions.

Although it looks involved, Portree only uses two colours per rows and small repeats.

Kit is available from Shilasdair Yarns for Coara Sport.
