Because the double-knitting is a new technique to many people, I offer practice pieces, and we will work this over many weeks.

Choose either aran-weight or dk weight yarn for a larger afghan with some real weight to it, or a smaller afghan that’s lighter and softer (I used Deramores Studio DK).

Choose 2 well-contrasted solid colors. Suggest Sapphire and Fisherman, or similar contrast.

I knit all my double-knit longer pieces on two circulars, using them like straights. I use a 29” circular, and work them back and forth with 2 different ones to accommodate the 167 st pairs.

Working in DK yarn versus aran-weight: You will work more repeats across, and more rows vertically.

Proposed Schedule:
Jan 24-31: Cast on, work Rows 1-7 (DK work Rows 1-10)
Feb 1-7: work Rows 8-14 (DK work Rows 11-21)
Feb 8-14: work Rows 15-21 (DK rep Rows 8-18)
Feb 15-21: work 7 rows (DK work rest of border 19-21, and work 7 rows of pattern)
Feb 22--Christmas: work 7 rows a week. (DK work 8 rows every fourth week so you’ll be caught up in the end when you will need 14 more rows than the aran people).
