This is my go-to project for all those mini skeins. I love an advent kit as much as the next person, but there are only so many over-sized shawls I can use in my wardrobe. This is a simple design that looks good on both sides because of the slide and turn technique I’ve used. You also get to unravel the fringe around your blanket at the end! I’ve outlined the approach for this sample using 24 minis and a full skein but be creative and follow your own design! You can easily substitute scrap yarn. Other weights and needle sizes can be used.

MATERIALS
US 4 circular needles, 32 or 40-inch cable
24 mini skeins, 20 grams each in fingering weight (sample varied between 80-85 yards each), about 1,920 yards
1 full skein neutral color, 450 yards minimum in fingering weight
Tapestry needle to weave in ends
stitch markers
scissors
Scale

GAUGE & SIZE
Gauge is not crucial for this design. However using different weights or needle size will impact yardage. This blanket is about 55” x 55”.

Updates & Corrections
Please download version 4.2 for the updated pattern.

  • New bind off video
  • New option for longer fringe
  • Updated bind off section as it included an unnecessary and incorrect stitch count
  • New photo of full-size blanket
  • Added turn and slide technique description
  • Added note about full skein needing to be a minimum of 450 yards
  • Corrected a tip about MC tails and CC tails to help knitters keep track of the side to work
