I like to give my patterns names that relate to my ‘regular day job’ as an archaeologist. In this case, these socks were an exercise in pattern writing, to develop my pattern writing practice, hence the name. I had a specific height for the leg in mind, with the rolled hem just popping out above some black lace-up boots, with a raised stitch pattern to keep the knitting a bit more exciting. The pattern includes two sizes and instructions for both Magic loop as other methods, and it is available in both Dutch and English.

Size and finished measurements:
Two sizes are given S/M (M/L). These differences between the sizes is the circumference of the leg and foot, the actual foot size is adjustable to personal preference. The yarn grows a lot during wear, so if you want a tighter fit, choose a circumference size down.
* Leg/foot circumference: 20 - 23cm (24 - 27cm).

Gauge:
10x10cm on 2.75mm needles in pattern:

  • Before blocking: 30st x 40r.
  • After blocking: 25st x 40r.

Materials:

  • One skein of Hey Mama Wolf’s sock yarn #04. I used the color Dark Hollyhock.
  • Needles: 2.75mm or size needed to obtain gauge. 4 double pointed needles or one circular needle for magic loop method of at least 80cm in length.
