This pattern requires knowledge of front post double crochet as well as crab stitch (also known as reverse single crochet).

The yarns that I have listed are the ones that were used in the example in the photos. Feel free to use any worsted weight yarn that you’d like. You need only a small amount of red for the cherry.

This hat is designed for a preemie baby, but you could add more increases to adapt the hat for a larger head. I do not provide the math or measurements for this, but you would want to be sure that the stitch count accounts for an even amount of “waffle”ing with the dc/fpdc rows.

The top part of the hat is worked in the round, and the cone section is worked in rows, joining and turning at the end of the rows.
