This pattern started out with a skein of reclaimed yarn. I used the front of a thrift store sweater to dye up a pastel rainbow gradient. my daughter insisted that I use it to make something for her, namely a pride scarf. I wanted to create a design that would showcase the full gradient and would look like wings. As I was knitting up the scarf, I realized that it looked more like segments of a stomatopod, and there is no more magnificent a stomatopod than the mantis shrimp, and so, Pride of the Mantis Shrimp was born!
