The design is based on one that was common in many late 19th/early 20th century needlework books. The colors for the sample project were inspired by the gorgeous yellow and orange primroses of early spring.

The cowl is doubleknit but the project can be knit as a stranded chart as well. I also included a chart for a scarf. Both the doubleknit cowl and scarf are reversible.

The yarn I used is no longer available, but any fingering weight, or sock weight yarn will work. For drama, pick two colors at opposite ends of the color wheel, one light, one dark. This one is a dark teal and a gradient yellow-orange-peach.

ETA 11/7/17: The folded hem can be difficult. Thus, while the double knitting section is simple once you get the hang of it, the hem can be a challenge due to the number of stitches and the small size of the needles. Use the tubular cast-on instead.
