The pattern stops at two locations to allow for customization. One for width the other for length. A hat size chart is included with the pattern.

Example: crochet for 5 rounds then using the supplied hat size chart continue round 5 until the desired diameter. Then resume on round 6.

This is similar to the ‘cut here to shorten or lengthen’ on a sewing pattern. ;) I find this method much easier to follow than S,M,L
