The Prismatic Reflection Socks are inspired by my sweater design of the same name (currently in testing!). These socks feature a slipped cable diamond motif that gives the appearance of a three-dimensional argyle pattern. The best thing about these cables is that they’re much simpler than they look, and they only ever require cabling two stitches at a time!

This sock pattern is knit toe-up and has two heel options. I recommend the Afterthought Heel, though you can choose to do a Shadow Wrap Heel if you’d prefer. This pattern has been tech-edited and tested.

Pattern includes charts and written instructions.

Yarn requirements: One skein of Fingering Weight/4-ply sock yarn (approx. 400 yds).

Sample 1 (light pink): Lamb Good Fibers Classic Fingering 75% Superwash Merino, 25% Nylon (Fingering Weight) 463 yds (423 m) / 100 g 463 yds (423 m)/1 skein in Nolita

Sample 2 (purple): Knerd String 2-ply Fingering 100% Superwash Merino (Fingering Weight) 400 yds (366 m) / 100 g; 400 yds (366 m)/1 skein in Cherry Garcia

Gauge: 32 sts x 48 rounds in stockinette = 4 x 4 in (10 x 10 cm) after blocking

Sizes: Adult S (M, L, XL)
Your Foot Circumference: 8.5 (9.5, 10.5, 11.5) in 21.5 (24, 27, 29) cm

Needles & Notions:

  • US 1 (2.25 mm) 32” or 40” circular needles (for cast-on and Magic Loop);
  • If you prefer not to use Magic Loop after the toe, you will also need US 1 (2.25 mm) needles for your preferred method of small circumference knitting (2 sets for the Afterthought Heel).
  • Stitch markers, tapestry needle, waste yarn in contrasting color and same yarn weight (only if you choose the Afterthought Heel option)

Techniques used:

  • Judy’s Magic Cast-On
  • RSC (Right Slipped Cross Cable) & LSC (Left Slipped Cross Cable) for motif
  • Afterthought Heel OR Shadow Wrap Short Row Heel
  • Tubular Bind-Off
