Project Knit Bag
This bag is a classic drawstring bag with a flat bottom. There is a variety of different cast-on methods and techniques that can be used in this pattern.
Overall, this project is very beginner-friendly with charts and pictures to help you follow along. I included also links to tutorials for all techniques suggested in this pattern.
The size of the final bag is also fully up to you – the pattern is designed in a way to allow you a maximum of flexibility to use any yarn gems for it that you may have lying around in your stash!
Yarn
This pattern is designed in a way that allows for the maximum degree of flexibility to use up that one or two skeins of yarn you had lying around without any particular purpose – yet!
Since we are playing with linen stitch in this project, you will be able to achieve beautiful results in a broad variety of ways to play with yarn combinations.
For this project, really any type of yarn weight or color will work!
- the DK/ light worsted version knit with ~ 150g/ 300m or 330 yards for a final size of 8x25x19cm or 3x9.8x7.5 inches (measured excl. the drawstring casing)
- for the sport-weight version I used ~ 100g/ 325m or 355 yards (+5g for the icords) for a final size of (AxBxH) 7x27x25cm or 2.75x10.6x9.8 inches (measured excl. the drawstring casing)
Needles
Depending on your personal knitting tension and taste, your perfect yarn/ needles combination may be slightly different, but to get started on testing your gauge you may want to try:
- 6mm (US 10, UK 4) needles for DK- or light worsted-weight yarns
- 5-5.5mm (US 8-9, UK 6-5) needles for sport-weight yarns
- 4mm (US 6, UK 8) needles for fingering-weight yarns
Appendix
Includes a step-by-step tutorial that explains how to sew inner lining with pockets from fabric and attach it to your project knit bag.
