Proteus was the Greek god known to be able to change his form. This pattern matches that! With a repeating design, almost any size (and project) is possible. Proteus is a beginner level overlay mosaic crochet pattern as it only uses FLODC and BLOSC. The PDF pattern is written in U.S. terminology and includes the full written pattern in a row-by-row format. There is also an X’d graph for those who prefer to read from a graph. The written format is in a new, easier to read layout! Also included is a printer-friendly PDF. Included in the PDF are some color combination ideas and basic size instructions for a throw, twin, queen, and king sized blanket. There is a beginner’s guide to overlay mosaic crochet included in the PDF files.

I chose to make mine with a 5mm hook and worsted weight (4 weight) yarn. I used Red Heart yarn in White (2 skeins) and Wildflower (3 skeins) for the body and Tea Leaf and Light Sage for the border. Using different weighted yarns and hook sizes will result in a different dimension to your project. It is perfectly fine to work with what you are comfortable with; just know you may need to add more repeats (or remove some) to suit your needs. The final size of my piece (5 repeats wide, 4.5 repeats tall) is 42” wide x 41” tall. Each horizontal repeat will add approximately 8.5” in width and each vertical repeat will add 9.25” in length.
